Functional Behavior Assessments
Behavior is communication. Before we can support someone effectively, we need to understand what their behavior is telling us. A Functional Behavior Assessment is how we get there.
What This Service Includes
This service includes:

Review of existing records, documentation, and prior assessments

Interviews with the individual, their family, and caregivers

Observation of the individual across their natural environments, including home, work, community, and day program settings

Completion of standardized and clinical assessments

Evaluation of the need for assistive devices, environmental modifications, or additional services

A comprehensive written report summarizing findings and recommendations
What To Expect
The FBA process is collaborative and thorough. We do not arrive with assumptions. We come in to listen, observe, and learn. You can expect us to spend meaningful time in the environments where behaviors are actually occurring, talking with the people who know the individual best, and looking at the full picture before drawing any conclusions.

The findings and recommendations from the FBA are shared directly with the individual's family, caregivers, and support team. From there, it is the people closest to the individual who carry those recommendations forward into daily life, with SJH's guidance and support along the way.

The length of the assessment process varies depending on the complexity of the individual's needs and the number of environments involved. Throughout the process, we keep families, caregivers, and support teams informed and involved.
Why This Matters
Addressing behavior without understanding its root cause is like treating a symptom without diagnosing the illness. It may provide temporary relief, but it rarely leads to lasting change. An FBA gives everyone involved, the individual, their family, and their support team, a shared understanding of what is driving behavior and a clear foundation for building supports that actually work. It is not just a document. It is the starting point for everything that comes next.
